Working Out – Arnold Schwarzenegger Style Training

Arnold was not a bodybuilder who switched his training approach around constantly as some do today. True, in the early days his training style evolved, and he experimented with things such as shock routines and also was one of the first to segment his training into split sessions (due to the time constraints from his military service) but once he finally got a good training approach down, he stuck with it.

Arnold threw a lot of work at his muscles. He was a believer in higher volume training to blow up the muscles to their huge size. Here is an example of what he did for his biceps:

Cheat Curl, with Barbell - 5 sets of 8-10 repetitions

Incline dumbbell curl - 5 sets of 10 repetitions

One arm concentration curl, alternating arms - 5 sets of 10 repetitions

Standing dumbbell curls, alternating arms - 5 sets of 10 repetitions

Some guys drop off on the latter sets in a workout. Not Arnold. He worked a full five sets even on the final exercises. And to make things even tougher, he would sometimes pump out more than 10 reps per set, going up to 12 or 15 reps. But he stuck with the five set per exercise style, and it paid off with the most incredible arms around.
